Pengertian Masyarakat DigitalMasyarakat digital (masyarakat jejaring) adalah masyarakat yang elemen di dalamnya terhubung melalui jaringan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi sehingga memengaruhi pola interaksi yang terjadi. Interaksi masyarakat digital dilakukan secara daring melalui perangkat yang di dalamnya terdapat media komunikasi dan informasi berupa aplikasi seperti media sosial.Manuel Castells seorang profesor Sosiologi dari University of Catalunya, Spanyol menulis buku yang berjudul The Network Society: A Cross-cultural Perspective (2004). Dalam bukunya Castells menggunakan istilah kelahiran masyarakat abad 21 dengan istilah masyarakat jejaring (network society). Masyarakat jejaring (network society) merupakan masyarakat yang struktur sosialnya adalah jaringan dengan mikro-elektronik berbasis informasi digital dan teknologi komunikasi. Buku Castells tersebut kemudian digunakan oleh sarjana sosial dalam mengamati perubahan perilaku dan interaksi manusia modern.

Pilar Utama Masyarakat Digital

Pilar utama masyarakat digital di antaranya, 1. Digital Citizenship, yaitu penggunaan perangkat digital dalam pelayanan publik dan pemerintahan.2. Digital Lifestyle, yaitu penggunaan teknologi digital dalam aktivitas sehari-hari3. Digital Commerce, yaitu penggunaan teknologi digital dalam aktivitas ekonomi.

Ciri Masyarakat Digital

Ciri-ciri masyarakat digital di antaranya,1. Penggunaan teknologi digital dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan, seperti dalam aktivitas ekonomi, pelayanan publik dan kesehatan, dan sebagainya.2. Masyarakat digital memiliki kebutuhan yang tinggi akan informasi3. Spatial atau terhubung dengan lokasi yang berefek pada pengorganisasian ruang dan waktu4. Banyaknya kebutuhan akan tenaga kerja di bidang informasi dan komunikasi5. Adanya perubahan pola interaksi masyarakat dari interaksi secara langsung menjadi interaksi tidak langsung, yakni melalui jejaring sosial.

1. Digital citizenshipDigital citizenship adalah suatu teknologi yang berfungsi untuk memudahkan urusan negara. Misalnya, proses pembuatan NPWP dan KTP sekarang bisa dilaksanakan dengan metode online atau di rumah saja. Prosesnya terbilang lebih cepat, tidak ada antrian yang panjang, dan pastinya jauh lebih efisien.2. Digital lifestyleDigital lifestyle adalah teknologi yang berhubungan kehidupan sehari-hari. Teknologi ini digunakan oleh masyarakat sehari-hari untuk mendapat informasi, mencari berita yang sedang dibicarakan, atau mencari pakaian yang sedang trend saat itu.Masyarakat juga diperkenankan untuk melakukan aktivitas berkomentar, menyebarkan berita dan memberikan respons suka. Hingga saat ini, aplikasi penunjang kesehatan dan pendidikan juga menggunakan teknologi digital lifestyle ini. 3. Digital commerceCommerce terkenal dengan kegiatan ekonomi, jual beli, dan perdagangan. Misalnya, sangat banyak aplikasi pendukung untuk melakukan jual dan beli di internet. Online shop adalah contoh digital commerce yang menjamur setiap tahunnya.Bahkan kita bisa belajar atau melakukan transaksi saham dan investasi sendiri. Jika melihat dari masyarakat sekarang, dari anak-anak hingga orang tua sekarang sudah termasuk ke dalam masyarakat digital.

Kelebihan dan Kekurangan Masyarakat Digital

Kelebihan masyarakat digital1. Interaksi masyarakat digital tidak lagi terbatas oleh tempat atau ruang.2. Mudahnya proses komunikasi jarak jauh dengan cepat bahkan real time.3. Aktivitas masyarakat bisa dilakukan dengan lebih cepat, efektif dan efisien sehingga bisa meningkatkan produktivitas.4. Kemudahan dalam menyebarkan maupun mencari informasi5. Semakin luasnya lapangan pekerjaan, terutama yang terkait dengan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi.Kekurangan masyarakat digital1. Berkembangnya jenis kejahatan baru yaitu berupa kejahatan dunia maya atau cyber crime2. Pemanfaatan teknologi digital yang tidak pada tempatnya justru menurunkan tingkat produktivitas.3. Munculnya kecenderungan sifat adiktif terhadap media sosial dan game

4. Berkurangnya batas-batas privasi.
