Initially inspired by the Water-type Mudkip in Pokémon, the Blue Axolotl in Minecraft is the rarest color variant of the cuddly passive aquatic mob. What makes the Blue Axolotl so rare is the exceedingly low probability of the variation spawning in-game. More specifically, the indigo-colored Axolotl has a 1 out of 1,200 or 0.083% chance of being the offspring during the breeding process.

Since Blue Axolotls have such a low spawn rate, Minecraft players might wish to seek an alternative way to obtain these elusive creatures. Fortunately, such a method is available via the console commands available for both the Java and Bedrock Edition of Minecraft. For those unfamiliar, Java is the Minecraft version exclusive for PC, while Bedrock Edition incorporates the game versions for the Windows Store, mobile, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Keep in mind that using console commands in any Minecraft version requires cheats to be enabled, resulting in achievements being deactivated from the world. In other words, those looking to earn achievements will need to spawn Blue Axolotls organically through breeding, while those who are less concerned about in-game achievements can use console commands.

Cheats for all Minecraft versions can be enabled within the creation screen of a world. Alternatively, those who've already spawned into a world seed can open their settings and activate cheats by searching for it in the menu's screen and ensuring that cheats are "on."

Spawning A Blue Axolotl In Minecraft

To spawn a Blue Axolotl in Minecraft Java Edition, open up the command console by pressing the "/" key. Every command in Minecraft must begin with a "/," but using this key from the start will automatically add the prefix, allowing players to start typing in the desired command. For example, the command for spawning the Blue Axolotl variant is "/summon minecraft:axolotl ~ ~ ~ {Variant:4}." If the Axolotl does not spawn directly in front of the player, they might need to look around with their camera view to find the creature.

As for Bedrock Edition users, Minecraft players can add a Blue Axolotl to their world by opening Chat and Commands and inputting, "/summon axolotl ~ ~ ~ minecraft:entity_born." Within several moments, a Blue Axolotl should successfully appear. Additionally, both Java and Bedrock should bear in mind that Axolotls need water to thrive and will not survive very long on dry land. Therefore, ensure spawning the cuddly creature near a body of water for the Blue Axolotl to swim in.
