Setup a rule in outlook to move all emails that came to a certain address into a folder. Rule got applied to all email and thus moved lots of messages that shouldn't been moved. Is there a way to revert back all those emails back to their original folders?
This is in outlook through Off 365.

I don't think there is a way to revert, but you could change that rule to dump them all back in the inbox, and then reapply other rules to move them where they need to go probably.

Based on my experience helping users that accidentally moved emails to different folders, I'm going to guess no.

Are the messages similar enough to create new rules to move the messages back to original folders?

Not all messages were previously sorted by rules, but that was a partial help!

I don't think so. Way too many differences. We went back to the inbox and then had user update the rule so that only emails sent to that account and not to her account would be affected in the future. I wish the advanced rule editor always opened instead of the basic version when you right click a message and apply rule method.

First what you have to do is to restore a message to its original folder, right-click the item and then you select the recover. For the restore, a message to a different folder, right-click the items and then select Move to a different folder. Next, specify a folder location and you can select move.
