Google Meet on TV Chromecast

Were all spending a lot more time on video calls these days. Sometimes a small screen is fine - whether your laptop or even phone. But when your whole family is there with you and you've put your laptop far away, that screen is too small and you may want to see the meeting on a much bigger screen.

One way to do this is to use your TV as the display for your Google Meet calls. And while you can hook up to the TV with an HDMI cable, you might want to do it without a wire. And this is easily achievable with a Chromecast. We'll show you how to get it all up and running.

There are a few things that need to be place before you can start casting:

  • Second-gen Chromecast or later, or
  • a TV with Chromecast built in, or
  • Nest Smart Display

You can read our reviews of some compatible devices, including Chromecast Ultra, Chromecast (2018), Chromecast with Google TV, Google Nest Hub and Google Nest Hub Max.

Obviously, youll need a TV into which you can plug the Chromecast (which means one with an HDMI input), plus youll need the device you normally use for Google Meet as youll still require it for casting and using the video and audio capabilities.

With all those in hand, heres how to set it up.

How to start casting Google Meet to a Chromecast device

If you havent used a Chromecast device before, take a look at our step-by-step guide on how to set up a Chromecast & cast video to your TV. With the device installed and ready to use, you can get ready to move your Google Meet sessions to the TV.

Go to the Google Meet page and click the New meeting button.

Then select the Start an instant meeting option (or one of the others if they better suit your needs).

On the next page youll see a few options in the right side of the main pane. These include Join now, Present and Cast this meeting. Click the latter and then select the Chromecast device that you want to receive the cast. With this done, you should see the video from your phone, tablet or laptop appear on the TV.

Now, click the Join now button and enjoy the meeting as you would normally. Remember that the video and audio on the TV screen is all coming from your laptop, phone or tablet, so position it to give you the best view and avoid it looking like you're staring at something other than the person or people you're talking to.

How to stop casting Google Meet to a Chromecast

When the meeting is over, click on the three dots in the bottom right corner and select Stop casting meeting from the menu that appears.
