Best painkiller for toothache Reddit

Hey reddit! it's 3am and I am in horrible pain. I had a bit of a toothache yesterday but it was bearable. I figured I'd call the dentist tomorrow, have him take a look no problem. I went to bed after taking a healthy dose of ibuprofen. I was woken up by an absolute throbbing, unbearable, horrible pain. I can't even call the dentist until 9am and who knows when he can see me, and ibupofen is doing nothing. 6+ hours seems like an interminable amount of time. What has helped you get through horrible tooth pain? any home remedies? Ideas to get me through this?

I've been in pain for the past two days. Seen a dentist today and they looked at my tooth and told me it'd cost $1,300 to fix and my insurance only covers $800. They gave me painkillers and antibiotics and told me to call to book my next appointment. I called my mom when I got home because the name on the antibiotics look familiar, so I asked her if it was the one I was allergic to. Turns out it is.

Well the painkillers aren't working and I can't take the antibiotics. I tried ora-gel and it's not working either. I'm a full time student and I don't have the $500 to get it fixed.... what do I do!?!? I'm in so much pain...

I'm unable to get an appointment for a dentist today, so I'll have to try tomorrow.

Does anyone know of any homemade rememdies to maybe get rid of the pain?

EDIT:

Reason I ask for homemade, is I live out in the countryside, and I'd need to go walk into town (half an hour walk or so).

The salted water is helping, guess I'll continue to use that along with painkillers.

What do you suggest for blinding tooth pain? from AskReddit

I've got an awful toothache - i took a tylenol before bed (just before midnight) and woke up around 2 am with because of toothache - it hadnt really done much. waited half an hour, took an ibuprofen (200 mg) it took the edge off, but my tooth/mouth is still throbbing. is it safe to take another one? (even though i took 200 mg of ibuprofen an hour ago) ?

Any other tooth ache suggestions (its nearly 4 am, dentist doesnt open until 9)

My girlfriend has been up all night with an intense toothache. She has an appointment at the dentist later today, but needs some relief (as do I). Anyone a dentist or knowledgable about this stuff have any ideas? She has already taken six Advil in the past six hours and I don't think taking more is a good idea.

UPDATE: Thank you very much for the thoughts and info. We got her into the dentist this morning and she had a root canal. Must have been horrible, but everyone's advice was helpful. I browsed the web for a half hour with little or no good info and finally just though "screw it, Reddit can probably help with this." Thanks for proving me right, especially the dentists who chimed in McCankles and grobmyer. By the way, she feels better, even as the novacain (sp?) wears off.

UPDATE 2: Meant to mention above, the Orajel did work temporarily, and the Advil/Tylanol seemed to slightly dull the pain, but really the only thing that felt better for her was getting the nerve yanked - only $1325 before insurance hopefully kicks in - yikes.

Had a tooth out before I left UK. Ran out of paracetamol what’s the strongest alternative I can buy here?
