I have been running into issues with Chrome on 64 bit Windows 7 machines. The browser seems to be locking up whenever you switch tabs, run a video, stream radio, etc. It seems that if you minimize the window then maximize it, it will be working again, however this does not stop it from happening again. I have done a google search and found the articles about disabling the pep flash that is built in, but that does not seem to work in our case. I have the pep flash disabled and I installed flash from the internet, but still having the issue. Anyone have any better fix for this?
It's been driving me mad too!
I found one fix that seems to work for me (at least so far)- try opening chrome:flags and disabling GPU-composting and Threaded composting

Mike I will try that. I actually tried switching browsers, but none are really as good and fast. Hopefully this will work. Thank you!
disable plugins?
run a malware scan and/or virus scan?
I have tried disabling the plugins as well as run a virus malware scan. Scans came back clean, and without flash the browser is pretty much useless anyway since quite a few sites use flash now. I cannot remember if when I disabled all plugins if it happened, but when I had all plugins disabled but flash I know for sure it still happened.
anything in event viewer under applications that'll give us any direction?
The only thing that I see is an information message of the following:
The description for Event ID 0 from source Self-service Plug-in cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
Self-service Plug-in exited.
the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
So far so good Mike!! Hopefully this is the resolution. I have been struggling to figure this out forever. Where did you find that at?
Glad its working for you too :-) its been driving me mad for weeks. I found it on a Google support forum post. I'd been searching on and off for a solution for ages and finally struck lucky...
Now drakes you know the rules, give Mike his BA.
Very nice!! I am so glad you found this! Seems to be good ever since I made your change.
I was giving it a little time to make sure that it was fixed and did not want to give Mike his BA then have to take it back if it was not resolved. Looks like it is good now so I will now.
I was having Chrome freeze when I unplugged an HDMI cable. Just disablingGPU-composting fixed the problem for me. Thanks!
Thanks! This fixed my issue in Chrome where Facebook would lock up and be unclose-able.
Disabling the GPU and Threaded Composting did the trick! Now, I can stop pulling my hair.
Mine started after i did a system restore from windows. uninstalled chrome and reinstalled and freezes, esp when flash/shockwave is running. (read... farmville 2)
Disabling GPU and thread compositing has done it for me - amazing improvement! Thanks.
Hi mike I have tried your flags suggestion and it most definitely speeds up Google search results once the Google Launch page is open but still find it is taking forever for Google Search page itself to launch.
Matte,
Try clearing your browser history and cache and see if that helps with loading the Google search page. May just be cluttered and need cleared.
currently all my other chrome pages have freezed but i can still pause and play music since it had already loaded .All i was disable the GPU and threading.
Thanks for the fix!
