WhatsApp is all about bringing people together, and there's no better way to do that than by creating a WhatsApp group. WhatsApp groups make it easy for you to exchange group messages, swap photos, lock in plans, and communicate important information regarding your workplace, school, or community.
But as with all things in life, sometimes there comes a time for a WhatsApp group to go away. Deleting a WhatsApp app group is a multi-step process, but unless it's a massive group, it's not that complicated or time consuming.
Here's how to do it.

On one hand, they help us keep up with all our mates, but the onslaught of notifications can be a shocker. It’s likely to take something pretty big to make you want to leave – despite the many, many updates – but the option is always there. If you do decide to bail from a chat, the way you do so is a little different depending on whether you’re a group admin or just a participant. As an admin, you can go full scorched-earth and remove everyone then delete, which is a move that’s very much at your own discretion. As a participant, you’re free to leave at any time and leave the rest of them to get on with it.
How to delete a WhatsApp group as an admin
You can only do this if you’re the admin of a WhatsApp group – it won’t work if you’re just a member.
Firstly, you need to delete all participants of the group:
- Go to the group in WhatsApp.
- Tap the subject of the group.
- Tap the participant you wish to remove.
- Tap Remove {participant} in the menu.

- Swipe on the group (or tap if you’re on Android) you want to delete.
- Tap More, and choose Delete Group.
How to delete a WhatsApp group as a participant
This won’t actually delete the group for everyone else, but it will remove it from your phone.
If you’re not ready to commit to a full delete just yet, you can choose to archive the group at the next step if you wish, which will save it in a separate folder.
